LONDON ART FAIR 2025
22–26 January 2025
Stand 26, Business Design Centre, Islington
England & Co’s presentation at the London Art fair of 20th-century Modern British artworks, had a particular focus on British Surrealism: including works by Eileen Agar (1906-1999), John Banting (1902-1971), Rolf Brandt (1906-1986), Emmy Bridgewater (1906-1999), Julian Trevelyan (1910-1988), Augustus Lunn (1905-1986), Conroy Maddox (1912-2005), Desmond Morris (b. 1928), Sir Roland Penrose (1900-1984), and Paule Vézelay (1892-1984). These Surrealist works came from private collections and estates – a rare Surrealist painting by William Gear (1915-1997), Afternoon on the Arno (1938), had not been on view since it was acquired for a private collection over 20 years ago. John Banting’s A Woman as an Island (1937) was once in the collection of fellow artist, Sir Roland Penrose.
Other artists represented included Martin Bradley (1921-2023), John Christopherson (1921-1996), Benjamin Creme (1922-2016), Prunella Clough (1919-1999), Francis Davison (1919-1984), Albert Herbert (1925-2008), Patrick Heron (1920-1999), David Jones (1895-1974), Bernard Meninsky (1891-1950), and Patrick Proctor (1936-2003).
