Peter Blake RASir Peter Blake RA was born in 1932, and studied at the Royal College of Art in the mid 1950s. He first emerged as a pioneering Pop artist after exhibiting in the Young Contemporaries exhibition in 1961 and featuring in Ken Russell's television film Pop Goes the Easel in 1962. He exhibited with the Robert Fraser gallery in the 1960s and associated with the leading figures of 'swinging London', designing the sleeve for The Beatles' record album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. One of Britain's best-known artists, a major retrospective of Blake's work was held at the Tate Gallery, London in 1983; and another at Tate Liverpool in 2007.
