Allen JonesThe British artist Allen Jones (painter, print-maker and sculptor) was born in 1937 and studied at Hornsey College of Art and the Royal College of Art. Elected RA by the Royal Academy in 1986, Jones is represented in public collections world-wide. In the early 1960s, he was one of the group of artists who emerged from the RCA and changed contemporary British Art through their unconventional and irreverent works reflecting popular culture, and by subverting the division between commercial and fine art. Jones drew much of his own subject matter from glamour pin ups, cartoons and magazines that presented women as iconic, erotic steotypes. He has employed fetishist motifs such as latex clothing and stiletto heels, and became infamous in the late 1960s when he first made sexually provocative sculptures that used stylized female figures as furniture.
