Victoria Halford

Victoria Halford (born 1966) studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, followed by an MA in Fine Art Photography at the Royal College of Art in 1988. She has since exhibited in the UK and Europe. Halford has also collaborated with fellow artist Steve Beard on film, residency and book projects, including Voodoo Science Park, a film with Arts Catalyst 2009; Czar 52 Crash, an artists’ book with Piece of Paper Press 2007; and the Bookworks artists’ book commission, Pre-enactments 2012. Her publications include ‘The Mask Series’, in Performance Research: On Trauma, Vol 16 (1); and most recently in 2020, ‘Exorcism in Camera: An Experiment in Ontology’, Membrana: Magic Vol.5 (1). In 2022, Halford exhibited with England & Co at Paris Photo.

In a recent body of work, Halford takes found photos – family portraits, tourist snaps, landscape shots – and finds the points of intersection and overlap between them. The resulting works of photomontage uncover hidden emotions of striking beauty and strangeness.
