Rolf BrandtRolf Brandt (1906-1986) was a British artist and influential teacher born in Germany who moved to London in 1933. He is known particularly for his haunting book illustrations from the 1930s and '40s. The spirit of his early Surrealist work permeates the collages he made throughout his life. From the 1950s, he concentrated on abstract painting and constructions.
England & Co held a comprehensive retrospective of his work in 2004, and in December 2005 exhibited his drawings alongside photographs by his brother, Bill Brandt. This exhibition, Brandt: Known and Unknown, was the first time their work had been shown together.
