Biography / CV
1953 Sue Barnes born in London.
1971-75 Studied Graphics at the Central School of Art and Design, London.
Began experimenting with photography.
1976-79 MA in Printmaking at the Royal College of Arts, London. While at the RCA, Barnes extended her work with photography, often processing her film and making prints in the RCA Photography Department darkroom. Worked with other Printmaking students on a conceptual photographic book.
1979-84 Worked as a freelance designer, mostly for IPC.
Continued her personal photographic practice throughout her career.
1984-86 Teaching Graphic Design at Kingsway Princeton College, BTEC & YTS, and at the London College of Furniture.
1986-88 Worked as a freelance graphic designer.
1988-90 Design for the Financial Times Group, and for the BBC.
1991-92 Design for launch of The London Magazine.
1992-99 Design for educational materials and packaging.
2000-14 Worked mainly on her own projects and after leaving London began to exhibit regularly with the Hastings Arts Forum.
Barnes lived in South London before leaving London and moving to the South Coast where she was able to concentrate fulltime on photography and photographic installations.
