William Scott

William Scott (1913-1989) was an artist of Irish and Scottish descent, renown for his still life and abstract painting. He studied at Belfast College of Art and at the Royal Academy Schools in London (1931-1935). In 1958 Scott represented Britain at the Venice Biennale. A major retrospective of his work was held at the Tate Gallery, London in 1972 and in 1986 in Edinburgh, Dublin and Belfast. Further retrospective exhibitions were held at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin in 1998 and at The Jerwood Gallery, London in 2013.
