Born in England in 1959, Adrian Bannon has worked in the traditions of the Italian Arte Povera movement to bring the natural world within the experience of art. He has made poetic and expressive use of everyday materials and natural processes, combining materials from nature with manufactured media. His form of conceptualism delights in the manipulation of materials, yet is capable of inducing reflection: his Thistledown Coat series are ethereally delicate, and their seeming fragility hints at the precariousness and transience of life. Bannon's work often concerned the equation Art/Nature, and in recent years he focused on the nature of art in a play of materials and meaning, fact and illusion.

A large version of his Thistledown Coat series is in the collection of the Manchester Museum of Science and Technology.
